Hurricane Katrina Update

9Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest
if we do not give up.
10Therefore, as we have opportunity,
let us do good to all people,
especially to those who belong
to the family of believers.
~ Galatians 6:9-10 (NIV)

The devastation of Hurricane Katrina remains etched in the memories of all of us on the Gulf Coast. And for the victims who lost everything in the storm, efforts to rebuild are arduous.

Zion Lutheran Church Pastor Dave Johnson personally carried Hurricane Katrina relief checks from Silverhill, AL to the home of Pastor and Mrs. Robert Dittman in Mobile, AL on December 8, 2005. Pastor Dittman will make deliveries of checks to 6 affected families from Christ Lutheran Church in Pascagoula, MS. Shown at right are Pastor and Mrs. Robert Dittman.

In early September, Zion Lutheran Church spearheaded relief efforts specifically designed to assist families known to our congregation. With the continuing support of our members, other AFLC churches, and individuals throughout the country, we have been able to expand the distribution of funds to TWELVE families, TWO churches, and TWO charitable organizations. By the first week of December, we’ve distributed a total of almost $20,000.

Our continued prayers go out to the victims of Katrina, and the distribution of assistance will continue as needs require and funding continues.
