"Faith, Truth, and Missions"

Pastor John Eidsmoe
Brings Missions Workshop to Zion
October 28, 29, 2006

It was an exciting weekend missions workshop with our friend Pastor John Eidsmoe. Many may remember him from previous visits to our congregation or from his work on the legal team of Judge Moore. You may even remember him from some of our Sunday School materials dealing with the defense of the faith.

Lord Eidsmoe ("Knight of the Cross") greets Zion's members (l to r) Shirley Stephens, Becky and Steve Vasko, and Roland Snarr.

The Silverhill Knight (Pastor John Eidsmoe dressed in Crusader regalia) prepares to give Pastor Dave the ax, or is he knighting the kneeling Pastor?

Pastor Dave (l) welcomed Zion Lutheran Church's own "Crusader," Pastor John Eidsmoe. Dressed in his "authentic" Crusader garb, Pastor John discussed the Crusades, their genesis and their outcome, after the Sunday potluck dinner, part of the 2006 Missions Workshop for the church.

"Crusaders were faithful to the end." Here our Crusader Eidsmoe takes questions from the workshop audience early Sunday afternoon.

You can see why the Crusaders had to check their notes--it is very hard to see past the helmet visor.

Pastor John Eidsmoe presented a fearsome warrior Crusader, helmet in place, chain mail on, cloak protection for weather, shield in place, and hand on sword.

The Zion Lutheran Church troups assembled for action and potluck as Pastor John Eidsmoe spent time donning his Crusader regalia.

Pastor Eidsmoe is not your “typical” Christian pastor. A retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, an Alabama State Defense Force Colonel, a Head-quarters Judge Advocate, a Deputy Chaplain and Training Officer, a Professor Emeritus of Constitutional Law at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in Montgomery, a student-recognized Outstanding Professor, a Senior Staff Attorney at the Alabama Supreme Court, and an ordained pastor with the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations. Dr. Eidsmoe has expertise as a constitutional attorney who has defended home schools, Christian schools, the right of students to study the Bible in public schools, and the right of public officials to display the Ten Commandments. He has authored numbers of books and numerous audio and video lecture series.

Is he qualified? Well, he holds six academic degrees in law, theology and political science, as well as graduating from the Air Command & Staff College and the Air War College. And you know what else? He is a Third Degree Black Belt with the American Taekwondo Foundation and even serves as Alabama Representative for the Gospel Martial Arts Union, besides being an avid horseman and skier. “And I try to get eight hours of sleep every week!” he says. This family man lives with his wife Marlene and three children in rural Pike Road, Alabama.

Zion Lutheran Church of Silverhill, Alabama, was pleased to welcome folks in Baldwin County to its “Faith, Truth, and Missions Workshop” with Pastor Dr. Eidsmoe on October 28 and 29. Although Pastor Eidsmoe was in Silverhill for both Saturday and Sunday, workshop attendees were invited to attend any portion of this workshop, depending on their own church schedule. The Workshop focus was the presentation of missions and their Biblical relevance to the broader Christian community. There was no charge for this workshop. The Workshop Goals:
