The Christ Lutheran Church congregation of Pascagoula is responsible for a Christmas remembrance just as Christmas arrives. It sent Zion its first new Chrismon decoration of the Millennium. The "Chi-Rho," an ancient monogram and symbol for Jesus Christ, is based on the first two Greek letters in the Greek spelling for "Christ." The chi and superimposed rho are highlighted in gold sequins in this Christogram designed for use on a Christmas tree. We caught Zion's Council Chairman Pete Midgarden and Sunday morning worshiper Elsie Wren admiring the decoration on Christmas Eve Sunday. Zion Lutheran Church befriended and aided the Pascagoula congregation in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Christ Lutheran and its congregation have made major strides in recovery.

Members and friends of Zion will remember the kindness of Pastor Dr. St. Pierre in his brief interim pastoral ministry to the
congregation in the late 1990s after some difficult times during the
congregation's withdrawal from the ELCA and affiliation with the AFLC.
Pastor Ruport and Thelma St. Pierre visited the congregation on Sunday,
July 2, 2006. They are in the process of selling their home in
Fairhope and "retiring" to Sun City West in Arizona. Please pray for
the sale of their home according to the Lord's time table and for
travel and relocation mercies.

Pete Midgarden, aided by Charlie Canning, were working on
applying the old hymn the morning of May 17, 2006. Yes, "Nearer, My God, to
Thee," might have been on Pete's mind particularly as he "rose to the
occasion," ascending that old ladder to again work on the roof of Zion
Lutheran Church in beautiful Silverhill. The valley gutter of metal
was warping and causing shingles to be deformed, so Pete and Charlie
got to work to fix the valley.

Ralph Utter (l) and Pete Midgarden made short work of parsing
the cedar tree and getting it into Ralph's truck for removal. For many years the tree stood at the front southeast corner of the church sanctuary and was decorated with colorful lights during the Christams season. Removing the tree was the first step on April 11, 2006 in constructing the new paved
parking area.

Hi, We recently made a short visit to your church and were so warmly welcomed! Please tell Pastor Johnson that our Pastor Kris Nyman (of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah, ND) extends his thanks for the Swedish Hymnal and commemorative coin. We also gave one of the coins to Lyndy, the Girl Scout that had collected school supplies and Bibles to you for distribution to Hurricane victims. Our family at Prince of Peace in Beulah were so excited to receive greetings from you. In fact your church is featured on our web site. It's at www.lutheransonline.com/popbeulah under Pop On the Move. Again we thank you for the warm welcome and for the prayer of Pastor David that sent us safely home.
In His Grip: Joan Schumaier, Beulah ND
