Spring Fling
Sunday, March 30, 2008

Lent came early in 2008. Many were a little uncomfortable sponsoring a Valentine's Day event as in previous years because of the focus and timing of Lent. The women of Zion decided to do an event after Easter. Thus was born the "Spring Fling." More than a potluck! Punctuated with a small program! And, augmented with good fellowship! Not only that, but with hymnals on every table, there was a good time of singing as part of the program. Here are a few highlights.

The group was too big to get into one picture. After a nice meal, Master-of-Ceremonies Linda Gibbs cracked a few jokes and got the program rolling.

As Ella Kubina pours coffee at the serving table in the background, the Vaskos enjoyed fellowship with family. Pictured r to l, Jordan Johnson, Steve and Becky Vasko, and Lauree and Brian Johnson.

Henrie Burnett (foreground) joined (l to r) Thelma and Milt Luoma, Ernie Burnett, and Harley Caddy for table discussion.

Ella Kubina, Vera Avera, Grace Williams, and Shirley Stephens' aunt, Tina Lyrene (l to r) rounded out this table .

Martha Canning, Margaret Stephens, Betty and Wayne Pitcher, and John Mahaffey (l to ) renewed old friendships.

Master-of-Ceremonies Linda Gibbs cracked a few jokes and got the program rolling by introducing husband Mack Gibbs who shared some appropriate devotions for the event.

Cindi Johnson was the first of a number of musicians who shared in the Spring Fling program.

How big a bubble could a child or a Master-of-Ceremonies blow Notice how intent the children are as they see Miss Linda blow one big bubble. They each would get their chance shortly. Pictures (l to r) are Sam, Anna, Nic, and Ben Cockrell, Jordan, Jacob, and Morgan Johnson, and Linda Gibbs.

What Spring Fling would be complete without a "Name That Verse" competition. Henrie Burnett fielded the questions and Ernie Burnett fielded the answers. They were a great pair, able to shine because of the abundant answers to Henrie's Bible questions.

Miss Linda introduced Ben Cockrell who performed a piano piece.

Brother Sam Cockrell performed as well.

Ken Caldwell offered a rendition of his own tune and lyrics. What an opportunity to praise Jesus for His kindness to Zion Lutheran Church. Sitting at the piano Shirley Stephens who provided music for the formal hymn singing for this Spring Fling event.
