Wayne Pitcher "chaired" the "Wax Patrol" on as it emptied the Fellowship Hall.

That piano weighs a ton, but on rollers Pete Midgarden and Steve Vasko (l to r) were able to wrestle it into Pastor Dave's office before the wax stripping began.

Linda Gibbs grabbed a pile of carpet remnants used for the children's program to stack them outside the Fellowship Hall.

Wayne Pitcher carries a load of kid-size carpet from our children's program as Milt Luoma heads into the same door (background). Mack Gibbs (l) and Charlie Canning take another table out of the Fellowship Hall as the prepare for the floor stripping and waxing.

As the area close to the door filled up with furniture and accessories from the Fellowship Hall, things began to be stored temporarily along the side of the church. Charlie Canning, Mack Gibbs, Ernie Burnett, and Ralph Utter (l to r) made the trip back and forth from the Fellowship Hall to the side of the church many times.

A. D. Evans, Charlie Canning, and Pete Midgarden (l to r) pose for a moment before wax stripping begins in earnest.

The guys (Steve Vasko and Mack Gibbs) discuss what is coming next as Cindi Johnson details the kitchen with her broom (l to r). You can tell the emptying process is almost complete and the stripping and waxing will soon begin.

Milt Luoma, Jim Smith, Wayne Pitcher, and Ralph Utter ponder the work to come as they complete the removal of items from the Fellowship Hall before the stripping and waxing begins.

Charlie Canning checked out the broken wheel on the mop pail and figured out how to repair the gadget so it would wheel again.

The items contained in the Fellowship Hall were hauled out one by one. Then A.D. Evans from Bay Minette backs his rig into the parking lot as he readies for a Saturday of work.

The heavy duty waxing machine has been taken off its trailer and brought into the Fellowship Hall. Wayne Pitcher follows its path into the doorway while Norma Smith, Cindi Johnson, and Betty Pitcher (l to r) discuss the morning women's Bible study.

An army runs on its stomach, but a church runs on hot coffee plugged into the outside outlet and soda packed in ice in the cooler. Steve Vasko talks to Ernie Burnett and Pete Midgarden while Charlie Canning guards the pop and warily checks out the camera (l to r).

Milt Luoma, Ralph Utter, and Jim Smith (l to r) examine the empty Fellowship Hall and discuss the next leg in a long day of work.

Milt Luoma and Jim Smith (l to r) take time for coffee before getting back to work. They may have been fighting about that mop, but neither will admit who applied it to the floor first.

Ernie Burnett worked the "doodlebug," a hand version of a machine stripper for the floor. Because A. D. Evans' machine can't get next to the wall or in the corners, there is a need for extra hand labor. Here's Ernie earning his coffee.

Ed Kinsey took a break from the "Wax Brigade" to slay a dragon or two, "weed-type dragons," that is. A little spray here and then it is back to work for Ed and Mary.

Between turns on the "Wax Team," Mary Kinsey was out by the church's sign, preparing our flour garden for its spring planting. No, she doesn't plan on putting in "wax" flowers.

That "doodlebug crew" kept going with someone working the gadget throughout the process of stripping and waxing the Fellowship Hall.

Wayne Pitcher, Charlie Canning, Ralph Utter, and Vera Avera (l to r) prepare the dining facilities in the shade on the east side of the Fellowship Hall. A variety of foods would shortly grace the table and fellowship will surround it.

Lunch at a suitably decorated table! Charlie Canning, leaning on the cooler had just delivered "Arbies' sandwiches" and the "Wax Team" was hungry. Betty Pitcher, Vera Avera, Martha Canning, and Norma Smith (faces toward camera and l to r) along with Cindi Johnson, Ernie Burnett, Henrie Burnett, Ruth Ann Bultinck, and Ralph Utter (back to camera and l to r) took turns with Arbies and Vera's cookies and dessert. Vera's friend Jim is behind Ruth, talking to Ralph.

A full day! Ed Kinsey chats with A. D. Evans after the project is completed (l to r) as Pete Midgarden writes Evans' company a check for his labor at the table.

A. D. Evans of Bay Minette takes a moment to face the camera after a full day working with and coaching the Zion Lutheran Church "Waxing Team" as it faced-off against the floor of the Fellowship Hall. The Waxing Team ended up Won and the floor was "Shown Up," or is it "shined up" by the 5:00 hour?

You can't slow people down to take their picture. Notice that the furniture is in focus, but Jim Smitth, Milt Luoma, Linda Gibbs, and Mary Kinsey (l to r) are all slightly out of focus--they were just moving those things out of the Fellowship Hall at frenetic speed.

Don't you know it! When its time to put things back into the Fellowship Hall, somethings arrive late. Ernie Burnett carries the base in and sets it up in the church office as Pete Midgarden and Charlie Canning hold on to the copy machine (l to r). Guess who arrived first in the office?
