Violet Dunbar Bettner

     Violet Dunbar Bettner, age 85, a native of Pembrokeshire, South Wales, England and a resident of Silverhill, AL, departed this life Tuesday, September 1, 2009.

    Violet leaves a large family to cherish the amazing life she led: She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel O. Bettner; a granddaughter, Ashley Violet Gormandy; a grandson, James Bettner; and a great granddaughter, Lucy Angel Gormandy. She is survived by her 4 sons, Charles R. Bettner of Mobile; Donald R. Bettner of Spanish Fort; Joe B. (Cindy) Bettner of Fairhope; Freddie G. (Sandra) Bettner of Loxley; 5 daughters, Diane B. Griffin of Augusta, GA; Gloria Halstead of Everett, WA; Cathy L. (John) Gormandy of Eight Mile; Claudia B. (Skip) Callaway of Gulf Shores; Peanut Williamson of Silverhill; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

    Pallbearers will include her 6 grandsons; Quentin Bettner, B.J. Bettner, Patrick Gormandy, Richard Bettner, Ryan Bettner, and Michael Bettner. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Moore and Gary Gormandy. Brother Jeff Copeland officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 from 1:00-2:00 pm with the chapel service beginning at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens on Celeste Road in Saraland. Arrangements by Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
