Milton Pierre Burns Jr.

     Milton Pierre Burns, Jr., age 73, a native of Bessemer, Al, and a resident of Silverhill, AL, died peacefully at his home Saturday, August 1, 2009.

    Following graduation from Princeton Theological Seminary, he was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1961. After serving churches in Carbon Hill and Birmingham, AL, he accepted a call to Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church, where he served for 23 years. In 1993, Pierre accepted a call to the Orange Beach Presbyterian Church where he served for 7 years. After his retirement, he served as Interim Pastor at Overlook Presbyterian Church, Bay Minette Presbyterian Church and Fairhope Christian Church. He also served as Parish Associate at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Pierre lived his faith. He was involved in the community as a Captain in the Spanish Fort Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He was active on numerous boards and served as Chairman of the Boards of Thomas Hospital, Mercy Medical, the Lighthouse and BARC (Baldwin Association for Retarded Citizens).

    Pierre is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Wahl Burns; three children, Dr. Rhoda Burns Passmore (Bill) of Silverhill, Dr. David Burns (Cheryl) of Huntsville, AL, and Sunny Burns Yung (Andy) of Houston TX, and nine grandchildren: Lizy and Kate Passmore; Alex, Eric, Rachel and Leah Burns; and Erin, Josh and Peter Yung. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Frank Burns (Mary Ann) of Alexander City.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Fairhope. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church.
