Zion Responds to Jeremy Gibb's Request
Monday, September 14, 2009

Jeremy Gibbs is now stationed in Afghanistan for the next year. His Unit needs mail! Jeremy shared the names of people in his Unit along with a list of useful items for Afghanistan. Zion is sharing mailing addresses weekly. In addition, Linda and Mack Gibbs began to collect items to facilitate mail and care packages. "Jeremy really appreciates our support as do the soldiers," the Gibbs reported.

care packages

Lots of donations from Zion. There was a variety of practical things used in everyday life.

care packages      Each package had a message of support from our church. Linda and Mack noted that "We had enough to make eight care packages! We mailed four this week, and will mail the other four tomorrow. Hopefully we can collect more items to make up 5 more care packages so that each soldier in Jeremy's unit will get a package."

     Dear Zion Members,

Thank you for your prayers and support for the men and women serving with Jeremy Gibbs in Afghanistan. He expressed his concern that many of them get no packages or letters or cards from home. He is good to share with them, but would like for our church to offer support.

We can do this through prayer, by sending cards of encouragement, and preparing care packages to be mailed to them throughout the year.

I thought I would prepare mailing labels and cards that you can pick up each Sunday. If you wrote a few words of encouragement and drop it in the mail, we could ensure the troops are getting mail regularly.

I am also going to put two boxes at the back of the church; one for snacks and one for toiletry items.

Here is a list of items they could use.

     Snacks:

Beef jerkey, peanut butter/cheese crackers, cookies, chips, pop tarts, granola bars, nuts, trail mix, hard candy, drink mix (crystal lite).

     Toiletries:

Hand sanitizer, baby wipes, body powder, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, bath soap, shampoo, stick or gel deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, lotion, foot powder, body powder, lotion.

Athlete’s foot is running rampant right now, so anything to treat that would be good. They don’t have anything to treat it over there, so spray or cream would be good.

Thanks for your support! Mack and Linda Gibbs
