Thanksgiving
A Silverhill Community Activity
Many churches, especially larger ones, have major activities relating to Thanksgiving. Silverhill as a community has a long history of its people annually giving thanks together, not by denomination or by church, but as a community.
The Silverhill Community Thanksgiving Service has designated its offering for Saving Grace Home for Women, an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program, serving primarily Baldwin County and operating in Elsanor.
Historically, the churches of Silverhill have raised up a prayer of thanksgiving on the Sunday before the formal Thanksgiving holiday celebrated across the United States. At one time the community met in a different church each year, another church the following year, a third church the next year.... You get the idea.
Zion Lutheran Church, located on 7th Street and 4th Avenue in beautiful Silverhill one block south of Silverhill First Baptist Church, has a long history of supporting Silverhill's Annual Community Thanksgiving Service.

As Silverhill grew, the people offering thanksgiving to God grew. In the last decade the community has been offering thanks in the sanctuary of Silverhill First Baptist Church, the largest sanctuary of the churches of Silverhill. People of different congregations come together there. They worship God together.
Silverhill First Baptist Church was the first official church established in the community at the turn of the 20th Century. It continues its active support of the Annual Community Thanksgiving project and has hosted a large group of community worshippers each year since the turn of the 21st Century. The church is located on State Highway 104 one block west of Silverhill's Town Hall.
The people of Silverhill First Baptist Church will be hosting the Silverhill Community Thanksgiving Service again this year at 6 PM this Sunday, November 22, at 6 PM in the evening. The service with participants from Silverhill's community churches will be followed by a Thanksgiving time of refreshment hosted by Silverhill First Baptist Church.
Silverhill's Christian Faith Assembly is located just a block away from Silverhill's Covenant Church on State Highway 104 and three blocks east of Silverhill Town Hall. Its recent renovation project has updated and enhanced its worship space.
As in past Thanksgiving events, the churches have designated the offering to be received by a local ministry. The Saving Grace Home for Women, "a Christian alcohol and drug recovery program," operated in Elsanor is the designee this year. The program will be introduced to the congregation during the Thanksgiving service.
Silverhill Covenant Church was the second church established in the "Swedish colony" back at the turn of the 20th Century. Located on State Highway 104 two blocks east of Silverhill Town Hall, the congregation has consistently joined in the Community Thanksgiving program.
Residents and friends of the Silverhill Community are cordially invited for a time of Thanksgiving and praise of our providential Heavenly Father, of our Savior Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Spirit Who encourages and builds us up in Jesus.
