Advent Begins

The Christian church begins its preparation for the coming of Christ with its season called "Advent." Zion Lutheran Church of Silverhill will commence the First Sunday of Advent with a "Hanging of the Greens" Service at 10 AM, November 29.
The Season of Advent begins the church year for Zion Lutheran Church in Silverhill. It is a time of recognizing that the Christ, Savior of the World, is coming, the meaning behind the word "Advent." Many churches use banners and other visual aids to set the mood of preparation, preparation for Christmas, the coming of the Messiah. This Advent banner will be in use at the historic church.
Then on each Wednesday evening of the Season (December 2, 9, and 16), there will be a light soup and sandwich supper at 6 PM followed by Advent Vespers at 7 PM. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to worship the Lord and are invited to join in our Advent time of preparation.
Zion Lutheran Church of Silverhill will join many other churches on November 29 when the decorations of Advent and Christmas will be taken out of storage and placed in the church naves and sanctuaries. Candles will be placed in wreathes and this 30 year-old creche sans figures will be retrieved from a storage closet to again celebrate the coming of the Christ child.
