HOTEL NORDEN

Axel Alfred Norden moved from Omaha, Nebraska in 1904 to build the second hotel in Silverhill, which was completed in 1905.      Hotel Norden was noted among the Swedes in the north as a home for winter tourists, most of them coming back each year.      To accommodate all the winter visitors, an addition was built, completed in June of 1906, which also housed a grocery.

     Mr. Norden became postmaster in 1906 and built an area inside the hotel for the post office. He held the position of postmaster until 1914. This was Silverhill's second location for the post office. The first location was the Olander Hotel.

DEEDS

A.A. Norden gave all of the property in the above four deeds (except for 20 acres which were already sold out of the 40 acres of the 1902 deed) to his wife Ereka Norden deeded on January 11, 1918, one day before his death. View PDF File of the Document

     Location: The Hotel Norden was on the west side of County Road 55 at the north corner of 4th Avenue directly behind Oscar Johnson's house and barnyard (town block 21, lots 10-12). This building no longer exists.

     Interesting facts:

1. The Hotel Norden and annex were destroyed by fire February 18, 1941 when the night guard hired to protect the hotel fell asleep with a lit cigarette.


2. The Hotel Norden housed Silverhill's second post office in 1906 with A. A. Norden as postmaster.
