The land in section 10 remained in the possession of the United States government until 1857 when the Military Bounty Land Act gave 160 acres to Samuel Brashins for service in the war of 1812. He sold that government land script to John G. English of Monroe County, Mississippi on May 1, 1857, filed March 7, 1893. English had no intentions of living on the land, but most likely planned to sell the timber and then the land.
