Writer and "recovering domestic abuse victim" John Shivers was the special guest of Zion this month.
His own website (www.johnshivers.com) describes him as a "word-weaver," not a "word-
smith." A weaver connects the threads of a story to release a
completed quilted fabric. A smith hammers the pieces of story into a
unit, individual pieces are forced to fit together. It is not the
same process. Both have a story to tell, and Shivers has been
weaving for a long time.
October is "National Domestic Violence Awareness Month" and John
Shivers is "a recovering domestic abuse victim. It's a day-by-day process,
and anyone who thinks that children don't carry those emotional scars
into adulthood, is only fooling himself. The impact of violence
continues to color every decision the victim will make."

Chaplain Wayne "Dusty" Doubrava of the Christian
Motorcyclists Association will meet with men this month.
Doubrava operates Wedco Jewelry in Silverhill. At the same time as his business was developing, Doubrava was attending
motorcycle meets and rallies. He kept running into people from the
Christian Motorcyclists Association (the "CMA"). There was no
chapter in Baldwin at that time. But then about a year ago, a national
chapter organized as "Heavens Thunder Chapter
#955" and Doubrava got involved. He says, "I now have the
opportunity to combine my joy of riding motorcycles with my Christian
faith. I have been a member of the CMA for a year or more now and I
serve as Chaplain of the Baldwin County Chapter 955." It turns out
that the CMA is one of the largest motorcyclist associations in the
world, 140,000 members strong.
